BIV is proud to announce that the work of its journalists and editorial staff has been nominated for two 2023 Ma Murray Community News Media Awards.

Three in-depth editorial efforts have been selected as finalists in two awards categories.

Two BIV print editions have been nominated in the awards program's business writing category, and BIV Magazine has been nominated for the Ma Murray's Magazine Excellence Award.

'Grappling with B.C.'s skills gap' – featuring reporting and writing from Nelson Bennett, Glen Korstrom, Tyler Orton, Timothy Renshaw and former BIV journalist Chuck Chiang – examined the consequences of a looming skills shortage, and its impact on businesses and industries.

With its 'Business election action list' reporting package, BIV explored the key issues facing local businesses in Metro Vancouver ahead of the 2022 municipal elections. This print edition featured reporting from Nelson Bennett, Glen Korstrom, Tyler Orton and former BIV journalist Chuck Chiang, and writing and editing from Timothy Renshaw and Hayley Woodin.

With more than a half-dozen dedicated print and digital issues per year, BIV Magazine delivers in-depth feature writing and commentary on a wide range of topics, including climate change, women in business, life sciences, technology and more. BIV Magazine designer Petra Kaksonen and BIV editor-in-chief Hayley Woodin are nominated for the award.

"We are very proud of this recognition of our team of journalists," said Kirk LaPointe, BIV publisher and executive editor, and vice-president, editorial, of Glacier Media.

This is the first year BIV has been eligible to submit to the Ma Murray Community News Media Awards.

"On a daily, weekly and monthly basis – across our roster of news products – we strive to deliver our community with incisive business journalism," said Woodin. "It is an honour to be included as finalists in this year's awards program."

Other news media organizations within the Glacier Media chain have also been nominated for 2023 May Murray Awards, including the Burnaby NOW and New Westminster Record
