Demand for applications and websites has pushed Vancouver’s Appnovation Technologies to the point that owner Arnold Leung, 24, needs to more than double his current office space.

“We’re hiring more people,” Leung told Business in Vancouver.

Appnovation grew revenue 66% to $1 million last year thanks to work from both multinational organizations and local companies.

Leung expects to generate about $1.6 million this year thanks to new projects from organizations such as the World Wildlife Fund and Vancouver’s Cargoh.com.

"We’re working with global companies. One out of New York contracted us to build Nerve.com,” he said.

The Nerve.com love, sex and culture blog is one of dozens of websites that Leung’s company has built using open-source Drupal software. He also builds iPhone applications and websites using open-source Alfresco software.

Leung’s 22 staff now crowd 2,500 square feet of space at 560 Beatty Street – space that last year housed 15.

“We’ve made a bid for a 5,500-square-foot new space,” Leung said.
