Job hunters keen to work for a startup technology firm have a new resource to help them in their search, with the launch of the Made in Vancouver website.

Made In Vancouver (www.vanmade.ca) launched February 2 and will soon include a list of all Vancouver startups that:

  • have more than 5,000 visits to their website every month;
  • are run from Vancouver and have staff in the city; and
  • include a link to Made In Vancouver.

Participating startups will list information about what they do as well as what positions they are looking to fill.

“It’s for startups that have a certain amount of traction but it’s primarily for early stage companies – and primarily those that are web-based,” Ayoudo CEO Michael Tippet told Business in Vancouver February 3.

Tippet co-founded NowPublic in 2004 and then helped sell the company for $25 million in 2009. He has just launched his chore-solving website Ayoudo.com. (See “NowPublic.com co-founder launches chore-solving site” – BIV Business Today, February 2.)

The City of Vancouver, Vancouver Economic Corp., Growlab, Ayoudo and Techvibes are all contributing resources to the Made in Vancouver project, but Tippet said that so far the initiative has not cost much money.

“Other cities have done similar initiatives, New York being the best known,” Tippet said. “We launched it at the Cities Summit.”

No companies are yet visible on the website. One Vancouver technology startup that intends to do plenty of hiring is cloud-based legal management company Clio, which landed $6 million in venture funding in January. It has a long list of open positions visible on its website including product development and sales and marketing positions.
