It seems British Columbians are, on the whole, a happy group of workers. One in five employees say they are working for a company that is very close to being their dream employer, and 69% say they are either delighted (24%) or happy (45%) at their current workplace, according to an exclusive Business in Vancouver-Insights West-Miles Employment Group survey.
A total of 55% said the company that they are working for is either very close (21%) or somewhat close (34%) to being their dream employer.
Factors that would improve their employer further would be better pay and bonuses, according to 57% of respondents, followed by opportunities for advancement (31%) and better employee benefits (30%).
The 10 companies most often cited as respondents' dream employers were (in alphabetical order, not ranked):
- Electronic Arts;
- FortisBC;
- HootSuite;
- Lululemon Athletica;
- Royal Bank of Canada;
- Shaw;
- Telus;
- Vancity;
- Vancouver Canucks; and
- WestJet.
The 10 public organizations most often cited as dream employers were:
- BC Hydro;
- BC Lottery Corp.;
- City of Vancouver;
- Insurance Corporation of BC;
- Government of British Columbia;
- Government of Canada;
- TransLink;
- University of British Columbia;
- Vancouver Coastal Health; and
- WorkSafeBC.
