Wind and rain warnings remain in effect Tuesday morning (December 9) for the capital region and the east coast of Vancouver Island. An emergency operations centre has been set up in Courtenay, B.C.
While the capital region has been spared the worst of the storm, there has been flooding, power outages and cancelled ferries in other areas.
In the south and central Island, the storm has forced B.C. Ferries to cancel the 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. sailings from Swartz Bay to Tsawwassen and the 5:15 a.m. and 7:45 a.m. sailings from Duke Point to Tsawwassen.
The storm’s high winds also knocked out power to about 11,000 customers in the north Island and nearly 4,000 in the south Island.
