Evan Solomon, senators, high-paid CEOs and Tumblr types

More scandals in Canada. First, the Senators (not the hockey team) are in the news again, spending lavishly, or more correctly, having taxpayers spend lavishly on them, for golf games, vacations, second homes and more.

And the CBC has had another hero fall. It turns out radio and television host Evan Solomon was making hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars, in a side business brokering the sale of expensive art to people he interviewed.

While he may never work in journalism again, with the amount he made he probably doesn’t have to.

But if he was looking for a job, here’s some suggestions from CNN from its list of PayScale’s top 100 careers with big growth, great pay and satisfying work.  One of the highest-paid jobs listed is being a dentist with a median salary at more than $150,000 US a year.

Or Solomon could retire and buy a nice $2 million apartment in Paris or a penthouse in Rio de Janeiro. Here’s what $2 million can get you around the world (including Toronto, but not Vancouver).

What he can’t become, without some work, is a female CEO, but there a number of those doing quite well. Marissa Mayer from Yahoo! tops the list (also from CNN!) at $42.1 million US.

Although if a white woman can pass herself off as black and lead the Spokane NAACP chapter then perhaps anything is possible. Here’s a picture of the woman, Rachel Dolezal as a young girl.

And in unrelated news, there are only two types of people, those with thousands of emails in their inbox and those who clean out their inboxes regularly (and other interesting tech tics). Which type of person are you? Tumblr will tell you.
