Senior sales and marketing executive joins BIV

Senior sales and marketing executive Jennifer Smith has joined Business in Vancouver Media Group /Glacier Media Group as vice-president of strategy and sales, Sue Belisle, president and publisher announced today.

“We are very excited to have Jennifer join our growing team as we move forward in a number of new areas,” Belisle said.  “Her deep experience in broadcast and electronic media will be a definite asset in growing our presence in these platforms. We’re in a strong growth pattern right now and Jennifer’s experience in creating new sales strategies will be invaluable in building on these successes.”

Smith has over 25 years of experience as a senior sales and marketing executive, including roles in television, radio and digital media.  She was director of national sales for CBC/Radio Canada – Radio 2 responsible for the launch of the new commercial format across the country, as well as that organization’s director of sales and marketing, Western Canada, for over six years.  Smith was also co-founding executive vice-president and general sales manager for Bell Media’s The Beat 94.5 FM in Vancouver; executive vice-president and chief strategic officer for OUTtv network in Toronto; founder and CEO of Rainbow Connections, a successful start-up web portal that was sold within a year to Headline Media Group (TSE-HMG); and a senior account executive involved in launching CTV in Vancouver.

A seasoned and savvy strategist, Smith is widely recognized as an expert in the highly competitive world of start-ups.  She is also a Certified Internet Marketing Business Specialist (CIMBS) and has led sales teams of up to 30 people with revenues over $100 million.  

She was involved in last year’s launch of Roundhouse Radio, Vancouver ‘s newest FM station, where she continues to provide consulting services for its development and growth.

A native of Vancouver, Smith studied at the University of British Columbia and the British Columbia Institute of Technology, and earned certificates from the Toronto School of Business and University of British Columbia. She won the Canadian Woman Entrepreneur of the Year in 2000 from the prestigious Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto and was a finalist for BIV’s Influential Women in Business awards.
