Next year’s Juno Awards will be held at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) has announced.
According to CARAS, the host city of the annual award typically sees a positive economic impact of around $10 million. In 2009, the Junos brought in around $11.2 million to Vancouver’s economy.
This will be the fourth time the awards ceremony will have taken place in Vancouver; the city has played host to the Junos in 1991, 1998 and 2009. Several past Juno Award winners have been from B.C., including Bryan Adams, Sarah McLachlan, Diana Krall and Michael Bublé.
“British Columbia has a longstanding tradition of producing some of Canada’s most accomplished artists and that continues to this day,” said Allan Reid, president of CARAS and the Juno Awards.
“We are thrilled to be bringing the Junos back to Vancouver and the province of B.C.”
According to B.C. Premier Christy Clark, there are more than 80 independent record labels and 120 sound recording studios in the province, making it “one of Canada’s leading centres for music.”
This year’s Juno Awards were held April 2 in Ottawa and were hosted by Russell Peters. Peters made some controversial remarks about women while emceeing the awards. Reid issued a statement April 4 apologizing for this, calling Peters’ remarks “off-script” and “inappropriate.”
The 47th annual Junos will be broadcast live on Sunday, March 25, 2018.
