Like his character Captain James T. Kirk from the original Star Trek series, William Shatner is turning his attention where no man (or woman) has gone before; in this case, he is looking toward the sun.
Vancouver’s Solar Alliance (TSX-V:SAN) has announced it will be working with the star to promote the benefits of solar energy through a public awareness campaign called “Join the Alliance – Save Money, Save the World.”
“The benefits of solar energy are significant, and I am pleased to work with Solar Alliance on this public awareness campaign,” Shatner said.
“I am committed to creating a better world through action, and this is one small step towards a cleaner future that is less dependent on fossil fuels.”
The first step in the campaign will involve the installation of a solar system at Shatner’s residence. The full campaign will involve reaching out to the public using Solar Alliance’s social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
Solar Alliance said Shatner’s “unique brand of passion and humour” will help promote solar energy and its benefits.
“Mr. Shatner is committed to environmental sustainability, and those ideals align perfectly with the Solar Alliance mission,” Solar Alliance CEO Jason Bak said. “This public awareness campaign will provide a platform for Solar Alliance to create new customers and deliver the benefits of solar to thousands of new customers.
“Our goal is to create a national alliance of homeowners and businesses that benefit from the low cost and positive environmental benefits of solar energy.”
In return for working as a spokesperson for the company’s campaign, Shatner will receive 750,000 Solar Alliance stock options with an exercise price of $0.195 per share with a term of five years. As of press time, shares of the company were trading at $0.205 per share. This is almost triple the $0.07 per share the stock was trading at just three days ago (April 3) when the company announced it was planning to buy an undisclosed American solar company for US$2 million.
