Development/Construction

Allan Beatty has been appointed to the IVSC New Membership and Standards Recognition Board of Kent-Macpherson in 2016. Beatty has worked as a senior appraiser with Kent-Macpherson since 2006.

Aiden Callison, Ali Kenyon, Rance Mok, Eric Ng, Susan Ockwell and Kim Winston have been appointed as associates of HCMA Architecture + Design.

Education

Scott Robinson has resigned as superintendent of the Vancouver School Board, effective June 9.

Health/Medical

John J. Orloff has been appointed to the board of directors of Novelion Therapeutics Inc., effective July 1. Orloff was previously Novelion’s executive vice-president and head of research and development.

Hospitality/Tourism/Convention

Kamal Silva has joined the Westin Bayshore as executive chef. Silva was previously director of food and beverage at the Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort and Spa in Singapore.

Legal

Renita Swamy has joined Terra Law Corp. as an associate lawyer. Renita’s practice is focused on commercial real estate, financial services, and corporate and commercial law.

Scott Allen, Justin McGregor, and Nicolas Pimentel have joined Alexander Holburn Beaudin + Lang LLP as associate lawyers. Allen joined its business practice group. McGregor joined its insurance practice group. Pimentel joined its aviation practice group. Menka Sull has rejoined the firm as an associate lawyer in its construction practice group.

Tim McGee has resigned as CEO of the Law Society of British Columbia, effective September 1. McGee was CEO for the last 12 years.

Gary Cochrane and Scott Sangster have joined Fasken Martineau’s Calgary office as partners in the banking and finance group. Cochrane specializes in implementing financing transactions for domestic and international banks and financial institutions. Sangster specializes in implementing debt financing transactions for institutional and non-institutional lenders.

Katelyn Ellins and Sydney Kert have joined DLA Piper LLP as associate lawyers for its Toronto office. Ellins specializes in commercial litigation and general corporate and securities law. Kert specializes in corporate and securities law.

Elizabeth Vranjkovic and Tommy M. Chan have joined Richards Buell Sutton LLP as associate lawyers. Vranjkovic is a member of the firm’s business law group and specializes in corporate and commercial matters. Chan is a member of the firm’s estate and wealth advisory group and Asia-Pacific and insolvency group.

Non-profit

Brynn Roach has joined the Pacific Parklands Foundation as a communications and research co-ordinator.  Roach has experience in environmental education, writing, conservation and natural resource management.

Sorin Posescu has been appointed to the advisory board of AsiaBaseMetals Inc. Posescu is a professional geologist with more than 20 years of experience in natural resource exploration and development.

Technology

Paul Geyer has been appointed CEO of Discovery Parks. Discovery Parks specializes in commercial real estate and investment in early-stage technology companies. Geyer has 25 years of experience as an investor and serial entrepreneur.

Hats Off

BC Cancer Foundation donated $275,000 to BC Cancer Agency for cancer research and enhancements for treatment. Funds were raised through the foundation’s fifth annual Workout to Conquer Cancer event.

100 Women Who Care Vancouver donated $8,300 to Strathcona Community Dental Clinic. The funds will support the clinic’s outreach program that helps marginalized low-income families.

CIBC Children’s Foundation donated $20,000 to Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver. The funds will support the charity’s programs for helping children deal with issues like bullying.

The Connor, Clark & Lunn Foundation has pledged to donate $24,000 over the next three years to Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver. Funds will support local children through its mentoring programs.

BC Children’s Hospital Foundation donated $20,300,680 to BC Children’s Hospital. Funds were raised through the foundation’s 30th annual Miracle Weekend event on June 3-4.

Buntain Insurance Group of Companies has donated $25,000 to BC Cancer Foundation. Funds will support this year’s 10th annual Cypress Challenge. •
