Rob Thomson has been appointed director of marketing and business development at HCMA Architecture + Design. Prior to this appointment, Thomson was vice-president of sales and marketing at Stella Glass. In this new role, he will oversee HCMA’s marketing and business development.

Hospitality/Tourism/Convention

Joost Schokkenbroek has been appointed executive director at the Vancouver Maritime Museum, succeeding Ken Burton. Schokkenbroek began his museum career in 1988 at the Kendall Whaling Museum in Sharon, Massachusetts, and went on to serve as curator of material culture and chief curator at Het Scheepvaartmuseum (Dutch National Maritime Museum). Most recently, Schokkenbroek served as chair of maritime history and maritime heritage at Amsterdam’s Vrije Universiteit.

Rong (Lauren) Liang and Pratibha Sharma have recently joined the partnership at Clark Wilson LLP. Beth Wilson, former KPMG Greater Toronto area managing partner, has been appointed Canada CEO at Dentons and will become a member of the Dentons global management committee and global board. Wilson succeeds Chris Pinnington.

Shiva Pritchard has joined Miller Thomson’s Vancouver office as an associate, practising in banking and corporate law, and mergers and acquisitions. She has experience acting for financial institutions and borrowers in commercial lending transactions, acting in corporate transactions and providing assistance with general business matters.

Keum Roling has been appointed head of marketing and communications at Casting Workbook, a company in the development and design of online casting software. Roling has nearly a decade of marketing and communications experience in local and global markets. Roling was previously with the accountancy and business advisory firm BDO, where he served as global public relations and communications manager. Prior to that, Roling was corporate brand and communications manager at Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group and a quality improvement consultant for the National Health Service in London.

Hats Off

Port Coquitlam Community Foundation donated a $3,750 grant to Children of the Street Society. The society’s prevention workshops help young people learn how to keep safe from all forms of sexual exploitation.

McQuarrie Hunter LLP recently marked its 50th anniversary with a rebrand and client event in Surrey. The firm presented a $75,000 cheque to Surrey Hospital and Outpatient Centre Foundation to help complete a 10-bed psychiatric unit for children. The Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Stabilization Unit will serve more than 800 children annually from across B.C. who require mental health support.

RBC Foundation has donated a $5,000 emerging artist grant to Rumble Theatre in support of its directors’ lab, which offers emerging artists the opportunity to learn about the craft of directing.

Great Canadian Casinos donated $500 to Crossroads Hospice via the casino company’s PROUD program: the donation was in recognition of Hard Rock Casino Vancouver’s employee fundraising efforts for Hike for Hospice. The Hard Rock Casino Vancouver team raised $1,140 for Crossroads and had a team of 25 participants.•
