Production of War for the Planet of the Apes boosted the B.C. economy by $81 million, according to the Motion Picture Association – Canada.
The movie, which with box-office revenue of more than US$56 million was this past weekend’s highest-grossing film, was filmed over 180 days in Vancouver and Tofino.
During that time, more than $45 million was spent on local cast, crew and background. Other spending included that for local office personnel, construction supplies, location fees, transportation costs, catering and craft service and hotels.
“The data released today signals the important role the film and television industry plays for B.C.’s economy,” MPA-Canada president Wendy Noss said.
“Productions like War for the Planet of the Apes not only make a big impact on the screen, they also support thousands of cast and crew members, local businesses and communities behind the scenes, from Vancouver to Ucluelet.”
MPA-Canada is an affiliate of Motion Picture Association of America, which works with Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Twentieth Century Fox, Universal City Studios and Warner Bros. Entertainment.
Productions currently taking place in Vancouver include Supernatural, which is filming its 13th season, Once Upon a Time, The Flash, Arrow, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow and Riverdale.
