DEVELOPMENT/CONSTRUCTION

Daniel Sorger has been appointed vice-president of corporate finance at Atlas Cloud Enterprises Inc. Sorger is currently a director at Rockshield Capital, a venture fund and merchant bank, as well as co-founder and partner of Cannabis Invest UK. Previously, Sorger worked at RBC in Toronto as vice-president of institutional equities sales and at Macquarie Capital in London, U.K.

FINANCE

HEALTH/MEDICAL

David Negus has been appointed chief financial officer at Sunniva Inc., a provider of medical cannabis products and services. Negus most recently served as CFO of Luvo Inc. and prior to that was vice-president, corporate controller, at Lululemon. Negus will transition in January into the role, currently held by R. Michael Steele, who has been serving as CFO and executive vice-president, finance, since February 2017.

HOSPITALITY/TOURISM

Trevor Rathjen has joined Encore Vineyards as retail and guest services manager for Okanagan-based Time Winery and Evolve Cellars. Rathjen has 30 years of hospitality experience.

LEGAL

Jon Hoyles has joined Glance Technologies Inc. as in-house legal counsel. Hoyles was previously vice-president, legal, and general counsel at Skidmore Group.

Michael Hewitt and Tricia Milne have joined Harper Grey LLP’s commercial litigation group. Both Hewitt and Milne are experienced litigators with diverse practices focusing on complex commercial and insurance lawsuits.

Areet Kaila and Brendan Morley of Clark Wilson LLP have become partners of the firm. Kaila is a member of the firm’s tax, estates and trusts and general business law groups, while Morley is a member of the business litigation group. Clark Wilson has also welcomed Athar Malik, Christine Oberti, Brent Meckling and Malcolm Macpherson to the firm. Malik is an associate in the intellectual property group, Oberti is an associate in the general business law and private company mergers and acquisitions groups, Meckling is a partner and co-chair of the business litigation group and Macpherson is associate counsel in the Aboriginal business, general business law and commercial real estate groups.

NON-PROFIT

Andrea Seale has been appointed executive director at the Canadian Cancer Society, BC and Yukon, replacing Faye Wightman, who had served as interim executive director. Seale has 20 years of experience with non-profit organizations and was most recently acting CEO for the David Suzuki Foundation. Seale founded Blueprint Fundraising and Communications and has held leadership roles at Ecojustice and the Banff Centre for the Arts.

RESOURCES

Jerry Birch and Kevin Greenfield, co-owners and senior executives of Taiga Mining Co., an Alaskan placer mining company, have been appointed to the advisory board at Graphite One Resources Inc. Birch and Greenfield formed Taiga Mining Co. in 1990, operating in remote interior Alaska.

SALES/MARKETING

Paul R. Dillman Jr. has been appointed vice-president, sales and marketing, at Emerald Health Therapeutics Inc. Dillman brings three decades of experience in global marketing, sales and general management to Emerald and has held senior leadership positions at the Coca-Cola Co., AB InBev, Philip Morris and Kraft Foods.

HATS OFF

The members of Port Coquitlam Royal Purple Lodge No. 10 donated $1,000 to Children of the Street Society to support prevention workshops for local kids.

RBC Foundation donated $40,000 to YWCA Metro Vancouver. The funds are in direct support of YWCA Career Zone, which assists multi-barriered youth with a range of services to gain work experience and sustainable employment. 

Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC) primary-care paramedic students were recently joined by health-care assistant and practical nursing students from Okanagan College for an inter-professional training day aimed at giving students valuable experience working together. Funding to support the training day was provided by the Central Okanagan Foundation, with additional funding from JIBC honorary degree recipient Peter W. Webster through the Pender Fund at the Vancouver Foundation. •
