The provincial Ministry of Environment has confirmed a spill of about 100 litres of crude oil – or just under two-thirds of a barrel – at Kinder Morgan’s Darfield station on the Trans Mountain Pipeline May 27.
No waterways were affected and the spill was contained within the station. Vacuum trucks were on the scene and operations resumed the same day.
“The station was quickly isolated and as a precaution, the main Trans Mountain Pipeline was shut down,” Kinder Morgan said in a statement. “Following the necessary inspections, the Trans Mountain Pipeline was restarted at approximately 3:20pm.”
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Environment told Business in Vancouver the incident was small and has been dealt with satisfactorily.
