WestJet Airlines Ltd.’s (TSX:WJA) new discount airline, Swoop, will see its inaugural flight landing at Abbotsford International Airport June 20.

The plane, flying from John C. Munro International Airport in Hamilton, Ontario, is scheduled to touch down in Abbotsford at 7:42 a.m.

Abbotsford is the only location the airline is servicing in British Columbia. Other cities Swoop will be flying from, other than Hamilton, are Edmonton, Halifax and Winnipeg.

The ultra-low-cost carrier (ULCC) is currently offering a $49 fare between Abbotsford and Edmonton. Fares include taxes but don’t include extras like seat selection, which can be added for a cost of either $11 or $21, depending on the seat chosen, carry-on baggage allowance ($36.75 per bag) or a checked luggage allowance ($26.25).

Competitor Flair Airlines took its inaugural flight June 15. This ULCC flies out of four B.C. cities: Vancouver, Victoria, Abbotsford and Kelowna.
