Telus Ventures, the venture capital arm of Vancouver-based Telus Corp. (TSX: T), is taking the lead on a $62-million financing round for a Canadian startup.

Toronto’s League, Inc. specializes in assisting businesses with health insurance and benefits through a digital platform.

"We believe that innovative companies like League — which deliver compelling, consumer-centric experiences — will not only drive high employee and employer engagement, but will also deliver fundamental improvements in health outcomes for Canadians through their carrier-friendly open platform," Telus Ventures managing partner Rich Osborn said in a statement.

Osborn will join League’s board as part of the deal.

The financing round also included Wittington Ventures, as well as existing League investors, Omers, Infinite Potential Group, RBC Ventures, Real Ventures and BDC Ventures.

Telus Ventures has also targeted at least one West Coast startup.

In March it confirmed an investment for an undisclosed amount in Mojio, a Vancouver-based startup specializing in connecting cars to the Internet.
