A Richmond ramen restaurant started offering mochi donuts earlier this month, and the colourful desserts are already making a splash on social media.

The donuts combine mochi, a popular Japanese treat made from glutinous rice, with the Western fried cakes.

Asaka Ramen, which makes the mochi donuts fresh in store, assures diners they’re the perfect finish to your savoury bowl of noodles and broth. They come in maple, cookie and matcha flavours.

Emma Choo, a food blogger who goes by @VancouverFoodie on Instagram, tried them and said they’re oilier than mochi donuts she’s tried in Japan and Taiwan, but still good.

MOCHI DONUTS IN VANCOUVER - FINALLY! • @asakaramen (Richmond, BC) __ EXCLUSIVE VF DEAL: SHOW THIS POST BUY TWO GET ONE FREE TILL THIS SUNDAY, MARCH 31ST...while quantities last cuz they'll be closed from April 1-17 for vacation! (the BOGO deal ran out cuz the demand is super high atm!) __ 'TIS TRUE!!! But, they're only available after 3pm on the weekdays and after 1pm on the weekends. These mochi donuts come in 3 different flavours: cookies, maple, and matcha. My personal fave is the maple, my mom's fave is the cookie, and my dad's fave is the matcha __ FINAL VERDICT?? It's got the nice doughy and chewy texture that makes you gnaw a bit more than your regular donut. But, it's quite oily in comparison to the ones I've tried in Japan and Taiwan (#misterdonut) __ Pro-Tip: Microwave them for 3-5 seconds then use a paper towel to soak up excess oil then consume __ TAG A ⬇️ MOCHI LOVER ⬇️ because I donut think they'll pass this up #vftakesvancouver #vancouverfoodie #asakaramen #donuts #mochidonuts #mochi #vancouverfoodies #vancouver_ig #vancouver #richmond #visitrichmond #foodiesofvancouver #foodpics #doughnuts #mochidoughnut
