Rogers Media (NYSE: RCI) has purchased Pacific Content, a Vancouver-based sponsored-content podcast company, for an undisclosed amount, the telecom giant announced May 1.

According to Rogers, Pacific Content was the world’s first sponsored content podcast company and is currently one of the largest in North America.

“Podcasting is a big part of the future of audio,” Rogers Radio senior vice-president Julie Adam said in a press release.

“The team at Pacific Content is a group of passionate and experienced thought leaders and content creators who are at the forefront of this transformational shift in the media landscape.”

This is not Rogers’ first foray into the world of podcasts; last year, the company launched the Frequency Podcast Network, which produces several sponsored content podcasts.

Rogers has 56 radio stations 52 TV stations – including OMNI Television and Citytv – across Canada.
