KD Poutine is now Canada’s national dish, and it’s coming to Metro Vancouver

Move over Nanaimo Bars. Take a hike, Timbits. The Twitterverse has spoken, and our country’s new “national dish” is a mash-up of two undeniable leaders in Canadian comfort foods: Kraft Dinner* (aka KD) and Poutine.

Move over Nanaimo Bars. Take a hike, Timbits. The Twitterverse has spoken, and our country’s new “national dish” is a mash-up of two undeniable leaders in Canadian comfort foods: Kraft Dinner* (aka KD) and Poutine.

And while that creation may already exist in our hungry – and demented – imaginations, or in the hands of some serious stoners, it will soon be able for purchase at a North American poutine chain known for their outrageous creations.

Toronto-based Smoke’s Poutinerie teamed up with Kraft Dinner to come up with a line of KD Poutines, which they are launching at their many locations this month.

The whole #KDPoutine situation (which smells strongly of cheese, grease, and advertising, and we know it) began as some kind of Twitter campaign by the fine people at KD (parent biz: the Kraft Heinz Company) to get KD Poutine some public love as Canada’s unofficial official dish. Looks like @KraftDinner even came out of a six-month Twitter slumber to do it, too.

Smoke’s Poutinerie hopped on board, and we got the “big news” via e-mail the morning of July 2:

“Over 30,000 Canadians voted and more than half voted for the #KDPoutine – our great national dish. And the conversation continued over long weekend. @KraftDinner asked Canadians to vote on which flavour they were craving the most and 49%, asked for KD bacon mac ‘n’ cheese.”

Of course, a simple KD-on-Poutine wasn’t likely. So Smoke’s is doing the trio of flavours, KD bacon mac ‘n’ cheese Poutine, KD mac ‘n’ cheeseburger Poutine, and KD buffalo mac ‘n’ cheese Poutine, and they’ll all be available starting July 15. Pack your bong accordingly.

Smoke’s Poutinerie has locations across Canada and the U.S., so if you need this in your life somehow, they operate in Metro Vancouver in Burnaby and Vancouver, and elsewhere in B.C. in Kelowna and Kamloops.

*Hello American friends. We call Kraft Mac and Cheese “Kraft Dinner,” or KD for short. This is not to be confused with our other national treasure, kd lang, whose initials do not stand for “Kraft Dinner,” but rather “Kathryn Dawn.” This concludes your pop culture CanCon training for the day.
