Unifor, the union representing bus operators and transit maintenance workers, has announced that today’s transit strike talks failed to reach a fair resolution.

Unifor Western Regional Director ⁦Gavin McGarrigle said that talks with TransLink failed to reach a fair resolution for transit workers. As a result, transit operators will move forward with Friday’s overtime ban by bus drivers.

Earlier this week, Unifor announced it would introduce a one-day overtime ban on Friday, Nov. 15. However, it added that it would also consider an overtime ban next week, too.

Since the dispute began, nearly 100 Seabus sailings have been cancelled and the impacts of an overtime ban in maintenance have begun to impact numerous bus routes across the region.

Yesterday, CUPE 7000, the union representing 900 SkyTrain workers, says negotiations with the BC Rapid Transit Company (SkyTrain) had reached a deadlock and that it would go to union members to seek direction for its next steps.
