Education
Joy Johnson has been appointed president and vice-chancellor of Simon Fraser University by the university’s board of governors effective September 1, 2020. Johnson is the university’s current vice-president of research and international. Andrew Petter will complete his term as the university’s president and vice-chancellor by August 31, 2020.
Finance
Scott Armstrong and Kelsey Malyuk have joined Smythe LLP as a partner and a senior manager, respectively. Armstrong and Malyuk were the president and senior manager, respectively, of Entrust Chartered Professional Accountants respectively before the company merged into Smythe LLP.
Legal
Laurence S. Klass has joined Watson Goepel LLP as a partner in the family law group. He will lead the company’s practice group in all areas of family law.
Morgan T. McDonald has joined DLA Piper (Canada) LLP’s Vancouver office as counsel. Her practice is primarily focused on assisting clients in both technology and cannabis sectors. McDonald was formerly a partner in the business law group of a Canadian business law firm and a co-founder of the former company’s startups practice.

Medhi Walerski has been appointed artistic director of Ballet BC effective July 2020. Emily Molnar will resign from the director position at the end of the current season and become the artistic director of Nederlands Dans Theater.

Victoria Gray has been appointed as conflict of interest commissioner for British Columbia’s legislative assembly. She is a former BC Supreme Court justice. Lynn Smith was acting commissioner after the passing of former conflict of interest commissioner Paul Fraser.

Entrust Charted Professional Accountants has merged into Smythe LLP effective January 1, 2020.
