A well-loved Vancouver fine dining restaurant has revealed they are closing their door after an incredible 35-year-run in the city's Kitsilano neighbourhood.
Bishop's, named for chef-owner John Bishop, 75, will close its doors August 1, 2020, according to the restaurant.
Launched in 1985, Bishop's has been a staple in the city's farm-to-table movement and elegant dining.
Bishop says he's opting to shutter after a "terrific run" in order to spend more time with his family and to work on a book.
"I also want to use these next few months to say thank you to my customers and our entire team, the people who made all of this possible. My name may be on the door, but Bishop's is all about a team effort, and that includes the dozens of local farms and suppliers who provide us with the incredible seasonal ingredients we prepare for your plate," says Bishop in a media release.
During Bishop's 35-year tenure, the restaurant has seen many chefs who have gone on to great success be a part of the team, including Iron Chef Canada and Vancouver celeb chef Rob Feenie (currently heading up things at Cactus Club),
Industry peers have long lauded Bishop for his food and hospitality. Among those is Vancouver's Vikram Vij, who said Bishop "has a subtle way of making every customer feel like they're the most important person in the room."
While there are five months remaining to enjoy a meal or more at Bishop's, there will also be some special events planned during the restaurant's final weeks. Bishop says he's working to organize bringing some alumni chefs back to create "one incredibly memorable meal that hits all the high notes of the past 35 years."
Bishop's is located at 2183 West 4th Avenue in Vancouver.
