The Association of Mineral Exploration is warning delegates who attended the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) conference in Sudbury March 2 and 3 that they may have been exposed to the COVID-19 virus and to take appropriate precautions.

Vancouver is a mining finance and service hub and, as such, draws a lot of attendees to the annual conference.

Public health officials have confirmed that at least one conference attendee has the virus.

Given the nature of a large conferences, it may prove difficult for public health officials to trace who the person may have come into contact with.

Those who attended the conference are advised to take the proper precautions, such as frequent hand-washing, and to stay up to date on the situation through Toronto Public Health.

The public health office is not recommending self-isolation for those who attended the conference, unless they begin showing symptoms.

“If symptoms including a cough, fever or difficulty breathing develop, then you should contact your local public health department,” the public health advisory states.

“Otherwise, we recommend continuing with your regular routines and activities.”
