Gillian Buergin and Chantelle Krish have been appointed to the board of directors at the Minerva Foundation for BC Women. Buergin is the founder and president of One Cadence Business Consulting Inc. Krish serves as director, communication, programs and outreach, at the Office of the Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia.

Technology

Greg Twinney has been appointed chief financial officer at General Fusion. Twinney will lead the company’s financial operations, together with investor relations, engagement with the global capital markets and management of fundraising. He previously served as chief operating officer, chief financial officer and senior vice-president of global sales and customer success at Hootsuite.

Hats Off

Business in Vancouver welcomes submissions from local small businesses and large corporations alike that demonstrate examples of corporate philanthropy and community involvement in the Vancouver area. High-resolution images are also welcome.

Betty Beedie donated $8 million to the Burnaby Hospital Foundation in support of the its “Proud History, Bright Future” redevelopment campaign. The hospital’s new Keith and Betty Beedie Pavilion will be named for Betty and her husband, Keith, who passed away in late 2017.

GCT Global Container Terminals Inc. donated $200,000 to support Indigenous-led initiatives assessing cumulative effects in the south Salish Sea. 

The Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 83 donated $1,000 to PLEA Community Services’ Children of the Street program. The funds will support the delivery of workshops designed to prevent sexual exploitation of young people.

Telus Friendly Future Foundation donated $20,000 to Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland. The funds will help the organization match at-risk girls with a supportive mentor through its one-to-one Study Buddy mentoring program.

Tim Armstrong received an honorary degree at the winter convocation of the Justice Institute of British Columbia. •
