On BIV Today...

We are recapping some of our favourite episodes while we are on summer break. In the third instalment of our special four-part Women in Business podcast series, sponsored by UBC Sauder School of Business…

Throughout her career, Catherine Warren – CEO of the Vancouver Economic Commission (VEC) – has served in leadership positions in a wide range of traditionally male-dominated sectors, from technology to film.

Being a leader doesn’t get easier, she says. She joins the show to discuss the role mentorship played in her career, share some of the advice she has received in her career and explain the importance of telling Vancouver’s story of economic development.

She reflects on what she sees as an erosion of respect for public institutions, insights from her work as CEO of the YWCA of Greater Vancouver, and the need to connect ideas to people.

“Surround yourself by an informal board of advisors,” suggests Warren. Listen to the full episode for more insights from the VEC CEO, who has roots in physics, journalism and digital media.

Business in Vancouver’s Women in Business podcast series features in-depth conversations with women who have risen through the ranks of respective fields.

Join host Hayley Woodin weekly over the next month for more discussions with women who lead. New episodes launch on April 29, May 6, May 13 and May 21.

Four episodes. Four women. Four unique stories of leadership.
