BC Export Awards


The BC Export Awards are the province’s most prestigious awards paying tribute to the success and innovative approaches of BC export companies. Extending across industries the awards recognize achievements in 9 different categories and are a celebration of the contributions exporters have made to both the provincial and national economy. Conceived in 1982, the program has recognized over 300 companies since its inception, reflecting the growth and diversity of BC’s economy over the past 30 years.

Garland Chow

Emeritus Associate Professor, Sauder School of Business, University of British Columbia

Retired from full time teaching, Garland continues to conduct research in the supply chain and transportation fields with colleagues in Canada, Korea, China and Australia.  Author of over 210 articles and reports, his current research interests include: global sourcing strategy, supply chain organization and integration, commercial truck safety, port trucking, digitalization of the supply chain and taxi economics and operations. Supply Chain and Logistics Canada awarded Garland the 2003 National Mentor Award and 2008 National Service Award. In 2012, The Government of Canada awarded Garland the Diamond Jubilee Medal for his work in ensuring that goods cross Canadian borders efficiently, safely and securely. He earned his BS and MBA degrees from the University of Maryland and doctorate from Indiana University. 

Kurt Ritcey

Senior Partner, Deloitte

As a Senior Partner in Deloitte's Vancouver Office, Kurt Ritcey focuses on Supply Chain Management and is the founder of Deloitte’s Canadian Sourcing & Procurement consulting practice. He specializes in improving supply chain operations for clients in the consumer business and energy industries.

Mark Livingston

Regional Vice-President, Export Development Canada

Mark Livingston is responsible for leading business development and general stewardship of EDC throughout Western Canada. With global trade insights and an advisory-based approach, Mark’s team is responsible for delivering Export Development Canada’s suit of finance, risk-mitigation and knowledge solutions that help Canadian companies of all sizes succeed internationally. Mark has over 15 years’ experience helping companies in the private sector across North America scale operations and maximize growth; with an extensive background in the Fin-Tech space, Mark’s background also includes leading commercial development in the areas of B2B Finance, Supply Chain Management and Business Process Outsourcing.

Dionne Laslo-Baker

CEO and Founder, DeeBee's Organics

Dr. Dionne Laslo-Baker is the Founder and creative force behind DeeBee’s Organics. Dionne, her family and her team recreate those nostalgic products we all loved as kids but now with a natural, organic clean label after the seeds for this idea were planted by her two children. With a PhD in Medical Sciences from the University of Toronto, Dionne has received many awards including Humanitarian of The Year from the Hospital for Sick Children. She has garnered international attention for her doctoral thesis on the effects of exposure during pregnancy to toxins in our environment. Now Dionne and her team at DeeBee's are crafting other healthy fruit-based treats and inspiring awareness through the creation of delicious products that are good for people and the planet. Dionne uses DeeBee’s as an opportunity to teach her children about the importance of following your dreams, sticking to your values and inspiring awareness by speaking and writing about the latest in food and medical science research.

Kirk LaPointe

Editor-in-Chief, Business in Vancouver & Vice-President, Glacier Media

Kirk has led Canadian broadcast, print and media organizations for more than three decades, holding the senior editorial roles at CTV News, Southam News and The Hamilton Spectator. He is a former Ottawa Bureau Chief and General News Editor of The Canadian Press, a former host on CBC Newsworld, the founding executive editor of National Post, the former ombudsman of the CBC, and a host on Roundhouse Radio. He has been Canadian Editor for Billboard Magazine and station manager of CKLN Ryerson, an advisor to the publisher of the Toronto Star, and publisher and editor in chief at Self-Counsel Press. Kirk is currently the Editor-in-Chief at Business in Vancouver and Vice-President of Glacier Media, and he teaches Ethics and Leadership as an Adjunct Professor and Executive-in-Residence at UBC's Graduate School of Journalism.
