Facebook Inc. (Nasdaq:FB) has raided a Vancouver software startup as part of a talent hunt.

Acrylic founder Dustin MacDonald confirmed Friday his small app company has been bought by Facebook.

Since Facebook is not buying Acrylic’s two principal products – a news aggregator app called Pulp, and an app called Wallet, which stores credit-card numbers, passwords and other information – it appears to be a talent acquisition.

"I'm happy to announce that we've packed up our small Vancouver studio and will be making the move to San Francisco in the coming weeks to join the design team at Facebook," MacDonald wrote in a blog on Acrylic's website.

"Our products and services have not been acquired by Facebook, and while there are no plans for further development on them, Wallet and Pulp will continue to remain available for download and purchase in their current form."

However, MacDonald confirmed to Business in Vancouver by Twitter this morning that he is the only person from Acrylic who has been hired by Facebook.

The Zuckerberg spotting in October 2011 spawned rumours he was here to buy social media firm HootSuite – something HootSuite founder Ryan Holmes quickly put to rest.
