Vancouver city council has approved the intensive redevelopment of half a city block in downtown Vancouver.

The Burrard Gateway project will be developed by Jim Pattison Developments and Reliance Properties and is located in the 1200 block of Burrard Street, at Drake Street.

The development will include two condo towers (one 35 storeys and one 55 storeys), a 13-storey office building and a mixed-used podium containing market rental, condos, retail and office space.

The two residential towers will include 810 new housing units, with 33% of those being two-bedroom suites. The entire project will add over one million square footage of office and residential space.

The 55-storey building will be Vancouver’s third-tallest residential tower, behind the Shangri-La building and proposed Trump Tower. IBI/HB Architects and Bing Thom Architects designed the project.

A Jim Pattison Toyota dealership and several one- and two-storey retail buildings currently sit on the site.

The development will include a new neighbourhood centre run by Qmunity, an LGBTQ community organization, as well as $2 million for cultural facilities.
