Vancouver’s Nurse Next Door has partnered with St. Joseph Health to provide home-care services to senior citizens in Southern California, the organizations announced this week.

The deal, which Nurse Next Doors said is the first time a private home-care company is partnering with a healthcare system to provide services of this kind, will give St. Joseph 26 franchises of the private home-care service. These locations are expected to work with thousands of seniors.

Nurse Next Door president Cathy Thorpe said this venture is the start of a strategic shift for the company as it works to start more work with large health systems in the U.S.

“We are excited to be changing the home-care industry with this dynamic partnership with St. Joseph Health, which is certain to fundamentally elevate the relationship between private-duty home-care and health systems,” said Thorpe

“This partnership is only the beginning in providing care to the aging population in a way that puts seniors at the centre of the equation, with health care providers and home care working together to ensure they are cared for with compassion.”

This is not Nurse Next Door’s first foray into the United States. The company already has 80 locations in the U.S., on top of its 57 Canadian franchises.
