Saje Natural Wellness, which was founded over 20 years ago in North Vancouver and now has 45 retail outlets across Canada, will open a 48,000-square-foot headquarters in Mount Pleasant next year.

Saje’s new space is in an old industrial building, refurbished by PC Urban Properties Corp., at 22 East 5th Avenue, Vancouver.

“We are grateful to be able to call Mount Pleasant home for the second time,” said Emily Robin, Saje’s senior director of store design and construction. “We love the idea of working in a building with the history and heritage component, and it the perfect size to support our growth.”

With 45 stores in Canada, the company is currently expanding into the U.S., with plans to open stores south of the border by the end of 2017, she noted. Saje has ranked as one of Canada’s fastest growing companies by Profit Magazine for the past three years.

Commercial brokers see Saje’s move into the neighborhood as evidence that more than high tech companies are locating in Mount Pleasant, where spot zoning by the City of Vancouver now allows a mix of office and light industrial space in the same building.

“Saje’s move highlights further changes coming to the neighborhood,” said Matthew Maclean, vice-president at Cushman & Wakefield. “We weren’t anticipating that.

“But Mount Pleasant is now becoming more than just a tech hub; it’s a neighborhood with the vibrancy to draw creative-type tenants.”
