B.C.-based medical cannabis producer Tantalus Labs has been named the 10th company in the province and the 45th in Canada to receive a licence to cultivate medical marijuana.
Issued by Health Canada under the Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations (ACMPR), Tantalus Labs will begin production at their facility in Maple Ridge in the coming weeks.
Earlier this year, Tantalus Labs opened one of Canada’s first greenhouses built specifically for marijuana production. The lab, named Sunlab, utilizes sunlight for the plant’s primary photosynthetic input rather than artificial light and reduces electricity demand by up to 90%.
The facility has the capacity to grow up to 10,000 kilograms of cannabis per year.
“This is a critical milestone for our team at Tantalus Labs and the future of the sun-grown cannabis movement, both in Canada and around the world,” Dan Sutton, managing director of Tantalus Labs, said in a press release.
“After five years of dedication to building a brighter future for cannabis, our team is thrilled to begin production.”
Tantalus Labs, along with their banking partner Capital West Partners, will be embarking on a round of fundraising in the weeks to come.
