Ron McIntyre, a Vancouver-based health care architect, has joined Dialog as a principal. McIntyre’s role is to accelerate the firm’s global health-care practice with expertise in non-traditional, non-institutional processes such as complex-care facility planning and evidence-based design. McIntyre previously worked at U.S.-owned CannonDesign for 13 years where he led health-care initiatives in Vancouver.

Education

Kathleen M. Birney, a civil trial lawyer and senior counsel with Cox Taylor in Victoria, has been elected to a three-year term as chancellor and chair of the board of governors at Royal Roads University. Birney has served on the board as a lieutenant-governor in council appointee since December 2013 and as the chair of the board’s governance and nominating committee since April 2016. Birney succeeds Wayne Strandlund.

Legal

Daniel Kozera, Laura Miller and Brett Weninger have joined Harper Grey LLP as associates. Kozera has joined the aviation, commercial litigation, defamation, media and privacy and health law groups; Miller has joined the health and insurance law groups; and Weninger has joined the commercial litigation, health, insurance and professional regulation law groups.

Tommy M. Chan and Elizabeth Vranjkovic have joined Richards Buell Sutton LLP as associates. Chan is a member of the estate and wealth advisory, Asia-Pacific and insolvency groups; he can provide legal services in Cantonese and is also conversant in Mandarin. Vranjkovic is a member of the firm’s business law group and assists clients in a variety of corporate and commercial matters.

Non-profit

Brent Cameron, managing partner at Boyden Vancouver and board chair of Boyden Canada, has joined the board of directors of Take a Hike Youth at Risk Foundation. Cameron’s leadership and drive to support vulnerable youth locally and across B.C. have led him to take a key role on Take a Hike’s board and expansion committee.

George Gorzynski, a director and co-founder of Fireweed Zinc Inc., has been appointed executive vice-president of the company. Gorzynski is a geological engineer with 35 years of experience in exploration and mining company management.

Wes Adams, Victor Erickson and Gary Nordin have been appointed members of the newly formed advisory board of Galileo Exploration Ltd. Adams represents the third generation of a mining family that has owned and operated coal, uranium and gold mines in Colorado, Wyoming, Utah and Guyana. Erickson has more than 40 years of experience in the mining business as a consulting engineer; he served as president, CEO and director of Cadillac Mining Corp. prior to its sale to Pilot Gold in 2014. Nordin has more than 40 years of mining business experience, including serving as founder and chief geologist of Polaris Materials Corp. and founding director, executive vice-president and chief consulting geologist of Eldorado Gold Corp.

New address

The Coquitlam office of QMC, a company specializing in utilities submetering, is moving, effective July 1. The new location will be at 1105 – 573 Sherling Place in Port Coquitlam. All phone and fax numbers will remain the same.

New office

In late 2016, Richmond-based WhiteWater set up an office in Bangkok, Thailand, as WhiteWater Southeast Asia. The firm has recently signed water-park services agreements in Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Philippines and Bahrain.

Hats Off

The West Vancouver Foundation donated $4,000 to Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland to support two West Vancouver mentoring matches. These funds will help the organization match at-risk girls with a supportive mentor.

The Alzheimer Society of BC’s largest annual research fundraiser, the Forget Me Not golf tournament, presented by Canaccord Genuity, raised $660,000 for the society. The 2017 tournament was held at Northview Golf & Country Club on May 18.

Overseas Container Forwarding (OCF) has entered into a charitable partnership, committing $100,000 to Habitat for Humanity Canada’s international program. OCF will also provide an opportunity for an employee or family member from one of Canadian International Freight Forwarders Association’smember organizations to win a trip to participate in one of Habitat for Humanity’s building projects.

BMO Financial Group donated $150,000 to the Vancouver Public Library Foundation. The donation is in support of the library’s project to expand the eighth and ninth levels of the central location’s building.

Bosa Family Foundation donated $20,000 to the Minerva Foundation for BC Women, in support of the organization’s Indigenous Roots: Girls Matter program. The program allows young indigenous women to encounter outdoor and cultural experiences that may have previously been unavailable to them due to participation barriers; it offers interpersonal, culture and social skills training that harnesses leadership potential and recognition of personal identity. Indigenous young women are the fastest-growing demographic in Canada, growing at a rate five times that of non-indigenous women. •
