For 30 years young people visiting Vancouver’s Science World have been able to uncover the nuances of human evolution, the laws of physics and the formation of the Earth.

And soon it will further expand its educational offerings in the realm of technology after Ottawa announced Thursday (January 25) it’s offering $693,000 to fund coding programs for the science centre’s Tech-Up program.

The money comes from the federal government’s $50-million CanCode program aimed at students in kindergarten to Grade 12. The CanCode funds are being distributed over two years to assist with digital skills development.

Science World will use its funding to develop programs ranging from in-school presentations from professionals to after-school science clubs for students in Grades 1-7.

The Tech-Up program will also develop hands-on workshops featuring computational thinking activities.
