Burnaby Blues + Roots Festival lineup unveiled

Nathaniel Rateliff and The Night Sweats headline this year’s event

The Burnaby Blues + Roots Festival returns for another year to Deer Lake Park on Saturday, Aug. 11. Tickets are on sale now.

The Burnaby Blues + Roots Festival has revealed the remaining artists booked for this year’s event.

Joining headliner Nathaniel Rateliff and The Night Sweats at Deer Lake Park on Saturday, August 11 are percussive folk group The Rural Alberta Advantage and singer-songwriter Nikki Lane.

Led by bandmates Amy Cole, Paul Banwatt and Nils Edenloff, The Rural Alberta Advantage has been featured in Spin Magazine, Pitchfork, The New York Times and Rolling Stone. In 2012, the band was nominated for two Juno Awards, and, in 2014, it won the CBC Music Prize for Best Independent Artist, according to a press release.

Fans of Neil Young and Tom Petty as well as Lana Del Rey and Jenny Lewis, meanwhile, will find Nikki Lane’s “vintage Sixties country-pop swagger” appealing, notes the release.

Also scheduled to hit the blues fest stage are Texas-based soul band The Suffers, Begonia and Amythyst Kiah.

Tickets are on sale now for the family-friendly event, which features a full day of music, food vendors and activities for people of all ages.

Gates open at 2 p.m. and the show starts at 3 p.m.

Tickets are $50 each or $180 for a four-pack (plus service charge). Day-of-show tickets are $60 each. Kids 12 and under get in free with the purchase of an adult ticket.
