Development/Construction

Doretta Pintaric and Melissa Sanderson, founders of Market Ink Consulting Ltd., a consulting firm that has held a long-standing relationship with PCL Constructors Westcoast Inc., recently assumed full-time business development and marketing roles at PCL. Pintaric has been appointed proposal manager and will use her 18 years of experience to prepare and deliver successful proposal submissions, while Sanderson has been appointed marketing manager, and will generate communications and social media exposure for the B.C. region.

Finance

Mitchell Demeter has been appointed vice-president of partnerships and business development at GAR Ltd. dba Netcoins Holding Corp. Demeter is a serial entrepreneur with a vast range of experience and is a pioneering figure in the digital currency industry. He established the first Bitcoin automated teller machine and first physical Bitcoin brokerage in 2013, along with Jackson Warren. Demeter was also the co-founder of one of Canada’s first cryptocurrency exchanges, where, responsible for business development, he established several key global relationships and deep market liquidity.

Health/Medical

Stephen Schroeder and Christian Zofchak have been appointed chief cannabis industry adviser and director of horticulture operations, respectively, at True Leaf Medicine International Ltd., a cannabis company for people and their pets. Schroeder has consulted on cannabis operations in Europe, the U.S. and South America. Zofchak has more than 20 years of experience and will provide the environmental controls necessary to eliminate the need for pesticides and fungicides during the production of cannabis products.

The company has also formed the True Leaf medical advisory board to oversee research and development of a medicinal cannabis product line to address neurological, musculoskeletal, gynecological and gastrointestinal conditions. The board will be led by Dr. Chris Spooner, a naturopathic doctor and chief scientific officer of the company; he will be joined by Dr. Caroline MacCallum, an internal medicine specialist with a background in pharmacy and expertise in complex pain and cannabinoid medicine, and Dr. Zeid Mohamedali, an urologist and researcher with a special interest in uro-oncology and pelvic floor dysfunction.

Dr. Robert Sindelar has been appointed to the board of directors at VANC Pharmaceuticals Inc., a pharmaceutical company focused on the Canadian generic drug, over-the-counter markets and point-of-care technologies. Sindelar is a professor at the University of British Columbia’s (UBC) faculty of pharmaceutical sciences and an adviser, external relations, to the Centre for Health Evaluation and Outcomes Sciences, Providence Health Care Research Institute and UBC. Sindelar is also an elected fellow of the International Pharmaceutical Federation, chair of the global pharmacy observatory advisory board of the International Pharmaceutical Federation, part-time president, Global Drug Commercialization Centre (GDCC) in Chengdu, China, and part-time vice-president, GDCC Worldwide, and member of the external advisory board, Trinity College Dublin, School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Hospitality/Tourism/Convention

Pradeep Sharma has been appointed to the role of president for the Indian Association of Amusement Parks and Industries, a non-government, non-profit, industry-led and industry-managed organization. Sharma has more than 20 years of experience in the international amusement industry, including leading operations for EsselWorld/Water Kingdom, and has run his own company, Bombay Amusement, for the last 12 years. As of 2013, he has been helping to develop the water-park market in India as vice-president, business development, for WhiteWater, the Richmond-based water-park design and manufacturing company.

Legal

Jana Mansour has joined Dentons’ Vancouver office as a partner in its construction, infrastructure and public-private partnerships and project finance groups. Mansour, who is bilingual in English and French, began his career in Montreal and has nearly 20 years of law firm experience in New York City, working on construction, infrastructure and energy projects for local and global clients.

Sales/Marketing

Craig Acheson has joined Beatty Floors, which specializes in commercial flooring and replacing floors in occupied offices, as a contract sales representative. Acheson has been in the flooring business since 1973. 

Tina Parmar has joined the Outsource Marketing team as a copy editor. Parmar, a registered kinesiologist, has more than six years of experience working in an interdisciplinary rehabilitation environment, where she cultivated experience in writing and editing professional communications. She has contributed to and edited varied forms of assessments and reports for a broad range of stakeholders.

Technology

Jesse Sutton, CEO and co-founder of Majesco Entertainment Co., has been appointed chief technical officer at Leading Brands Inc. Sutton has more than 25 years of experience in the interactive entertainment industry, publishing hundreds of games across all platforms and genres; notable games include Bloodrayne, Psychonauts, Cooking Mama, Alvin & the Chipmunks, Phineas & Ferb and Zumba Fitness.

HATS OFF

Business in Vancouver welcomes submissions from local small businesses and large corporations alike that demonstrate examples of corporate philanthropy and community involvement in the Vancouver area. High-resolution images are also welcome.

Chimp, an online platform for charitable giving, and the Walsh Foundation donated $2,000 to Down Syndrome Research Foundation and to 24 other B.C. charities. The donation is directed to covering legal fees associated with compliance with B.C.’s new Societies Act.

The Hylcan Foundation donated $10,000 to the BC Women’s Hospital and Health Centre Foundation. The funds are directed toward the purchase of an LED phototherapy bili light, improving the quality of care for premature and sick newborns across B.C. and the Yukon.

Pacific Blue Cross Health Foundation donated $10,000 in support of Dan’s Legacy’s Supported Program for Youth with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder pilot program, in partnership with the Asante Centre.

Craftsman Collision donated $141,362 to the Salvation Army to help provide practical assistance such as food, clothing and shelter to individuals, children and families in need. For the past nine years, Craftsman Collision has hosted its annual Make-a-Dent food drive, along with partner Save-On-Foods, and matches each dollar donation to reach the total.

The Loyal Protestant Association, one of B.C.’s oldest charities – established in 1909 – donated $10,000 to Children of the Street Society in support of the society’s prevention workshops that provide young people information and practical tools to learn how to keep safe from all forms of sexual exploitation. •
