Consumer prices in B.C. ticked upward 0.2% between March and April, reaching 2.7% as the province’s inflation rate outpaced the rest of the nation, according to Statistics Canada.
Data released Friday (May 18) reveals the country’s inflation rate grew 0.1% month to month, reaching 2.2% in April.
Meanwhile, notable year-over-year inflation bumps were seen nationwide in restaurant food (+4.5%), cigarettes (+9.3%) and mortgage interest costs (+3.2%) across the country.
“Still, the big picture is that inflation remains very close to both the BoC [Bank of Canada] target and its expectation, and trends remain slightly below the U.S. pace,” he said in a note to investors.
