After walking off the job at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening, the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC) announced Wednesday its 3,000 members had reached a tentative deal to renew their four-year collective agreement with Canadian Pacific (CP) Rail.

Striking conductors and locomotive engineers will resume work at 6 a.m. Thursday. Ratification of the deal, which comes five months after the union's previous agreement expired, will take place over the coming months.

“We believe this is a fair contract that our members can feel good about ratifying. I am personally very satisfied with what we have negotiated," stated Doug Finnson, president of the TCRC, in a news release.

"This is a positive result for our TCRC employees and their families, the 12,000-strong CP family, our customers and the entire Canadian economy," stated Keith Creel, CP president and CEO, in a news release.

CP reached a tentative three-year agreement with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) System Council No. 11 on Tuesday, before the union's 360 CP workers went on strike.

In a statement, IBEW senior general chairman Steve Martin noted the negotiations were difficult, but that a good deal had been reached for members.

No further details on either agreement have been released.
