Vancouver-headquartered Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) is the most reputable Canadian company as ranked by Canadians, according to the results of a RepTrak survey released May 23 by the Reputation Institute.

The survey looked at 250 companies from around the world, and the results were based on 27,000 individual ratings by Canadians. Companies were rated on seven components: products and services, innovation, workplace, government, citizenship, leadership and financial performance.

MEC scored highly because the company “balances its founding values with Canadian heritage and global aspiration while being socially and environmentally responsible at its core,” according to the survey.

“The most reputable companies of 2018 are those that balance performance with purpose, conquering our hearts and minds by living up to their brand promise,” said Bradley Hecht, senior managing director of the Americas for the Reputation Institute.

According to the survey, the most reputable global company among Canadians is Google, followed by Lego, Rolex and Nintendo. The only other Canadian company to break the top 10 was Jean Coutu, which is headquartered in Varennes, Quebec.

The top 10 companies in RepTrak’s survey were:

1.     Google

2.     Lego

3.     Rolex

4.     Nintendo

5.     MEC

6.     Samsung

7.     Sony

8.     Jean Coutu

9.     Goodyear

10.  Walt Disney Company
