Pro pipeline rallies are being held throughout B.C. this weekend by business leaders, resource sector workers and First Nations who want to see the $7.4 billion Tran Mountain pipeline expansion go ahead.

One of the “Suits and Boots” rallies takes place Saturday, May 25 in Langley, starting at 11:30 a.m.

Speakers will include Ernie Crey, chief of the Cheam First Nation, who has emerged as an unapologetic supporter of the project, and BC Liberal MLAs Laurie Throness and Marvin Hunt.

Rallies will also be held the same day in Fort St. John, Smithers, Fort Nelson and Kitimat. They are being held just five days before the May 31 deadline that Kinder Morgan Canada (TSX:KML) has set.

The company has stated that it needs certainty from the federal government that its $7.4 billion pipeline twinning project can be built, or it may cancel the project.

Rick Peterson, an organizer for the Langley rally, is the president of Peterson Capital and lives in Edmonton.

He said the Suits and Boots organization was founded to try to counter the anti-pipeline movement.

“It’s basically people from the business sector, mainly in the investment community where I work,” he said. “We all collectively thought we need to stand up and make our voices heard in support of the resource sector

“There’s a number of groups across the province that are doing similar things.”

The rally takes place from 11:30 am to 1 pm Saturday in the parking lot behind the historical Milner Chapel 6710-216 Street in Langley, BC.
