Adam Laker has been appointed general manager of Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. Laker has more than 25 years of experience in hospitality in Austalia, Thailand and the Philippines. Prior to this appointment, Laker was AccorHotels’ area general manager for the Philippines.
Jasdeep Chhokar has been appointed B.C. regional sales manager for Silver Chef, Canada’s dedicated hospitality funder. Before this appointment, Chhokar spent 10 years as part of the sales team at Yellow Pages Group.

Alexander Holburn Beaudin + Lang LLP has welcomed its newest partner, Wade Winkler, to the firm. Winkler has joined the business law, banking and lending, real estate and wills, estates and trusts practice groups.
Matthew Siren has been named partner at Vertlieb & Co., a boutique law firm specializing in a range of legal services for clients including personal injury law, fraud, internet harassment and cyberbullying. Siren’s primary focus is personal injury law; he has represented clients in numerous injury cases involving vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles and slips and falls.

Margaret Sutherland, director of programs and services at Decoda Literacy, has been appointed executive director of the organization effective September 1. Jacquie Taylor, currently executive director at Decoda, will provide transition support for Sutherland. Sutherland has 19 years of experience working in B.C.’s literacy field as a regional manager (Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy), literacy outreach co-ordinator, program facilitator, trainer, event planner and tutor.

Charles Brezer has been appointed a director at Leading Brands. Brezer is also a director of Liquid Media Group Ltd. Following the appointment of Brezer, directors Ralph McRae, Thomas Gaglardi, Darryl Eddy and James Corbett tendered their resignations. McRae has also tendered his resignation as president and CEO of the company.

David Eaton has resigned from the board of directors at Tanzania Minerals Corp. Bev Funston has been appointed to the board; she has served as a corporate secretary and a director on the board of public and private natural resource companies over the past 18 years.
Alan Stephens, one of the founders of Coro Mining Corp., has resigned as executive director of exploration. Stephens has become a non-executive director and has also agreed to a renewable 12-month consultancy agreement so that his skills and experience can be retained as the company seeks to advance exploration at its flagship Marimaca asset.
Mathew Ball has been appointed interim CEO of Golden Dawn Minerals Inc. Wolf Wiese, the company’s current CEO, is unable to carry out the duties of his office due to a medical situation.
Transportation
Mark Lamarre, a shipbuilding executive with more than 30 years of experience in operations and business transformation, has been named CEO of Seaspan Shipyards. Lamarre, who most recently served as CEO of Australian Shipbuilding Co., succeeds Brian Carter, who has stepped down to pursue other opportunities. Lamarre’s appointment follows recent Seaspan Shipyards additions to the senior leadership team, including Jari Anttila (previously with Philly Shipyard Inc. and Meyer Turku in Finland) as chief operating officer and Christof Brass (previously with Airbus Group SAS) as chief financial officer.

Pinkowski has more than 18 years of experience as a financial adviser/portfolio manager. RBC volunteers recently spent an evening power washing, weeding and raking the Crossroads Hospice Labyrinth Healing Garden at the Pioneer Memorial Park in Port Moody. In honour of the volunteers’ engagement, RBC Foundation donated $1,000 to Crossroads Hospice Society.
Coast Capital Savings’ Young Leaders Community Council donated $12,000 to Children of the Street Society in support of the society’s Youth Art Engagement Project, which works with small groups of high-risk youth.•
