Japanese fashion brand Uniqlo will open its fourth B.C. store at Coquitlam Centre on September 14, the company confirmed August 29.

In addition to that 12,000-square-foot store, Uniqlo's B.C. stores include a 20,630-square-foot store at Metropolis at Metrotown, a 12,800-square-foot store at Guildford Town Centre and an 8,010-square-foot store at Richmond Centre.

The company also announced several other store openings this fall in Ontario with the result being that the chain is set to have nine Canadian stores by November 2, up from five stores today. Worldwide, Uniqlo has more than 1,900 stores and about US9.6 billion in annual revenue, which helps it rank as one of the globe's largest fashion brands.

The company has yet to announce any plans for a downtown Vancouver store despite its CEO, Tadashi Yanai telling Business in Vancouver last year that he wanted to open the company’s first store in that area but could not find sufficient space.

Finding reasonably priced space in a good location was easier in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), he said, so Uniqlo opened two outlets in the GTA last fall: a 33,400-square-foot store at CF Toronto Eaton Centre in September 2016 and a 30,000-square-foot store at Metro Toronto’s Yorkdale Shopping Centre a month later.

The chain's stores tend to be between 10,000 and 20,000 square feet.
