More than 150 workers at a gaming studio in Burnaby are out of work after its Japanese parent company decided to close up shop.

“We’re sad to announce that effective today, Capcom Vancouver has suspended operations. We want to express our deepest thanks to our team and our fans for all your support,” Capcom Game Studio Vancouver, Inc. tweeted on September 18.

Its Japanense parent company, Capcom Co., Ltd., said it expects to take a 4.5-billion yen ($51.8 million) loss in the wake of the closure.

The local studio focuses primarily on games for the non-Japanese market and is best known for titles such as Dead Rising and Puzzle Fighter.

“However, Capcom is currently reviewing the allocation of its development resources that support the production of world-class content,” the parent company said in a statement.
