DEVELOPMENT/CONSTRUCTION

Chris Primett has joined Vancouver Pile Driving Ltd. (Vanpile) as vice-president and general manager. Primett, a civil engineer, has more than 25 years of experience and recently worked as managing director of Aarsleff Ground Engineering Ltd. in the U.K. Primett will lead Vanpile from its headquarters in North Vancouver.

FINANCE

Robert Kamm has been appointed to the board of directors of FinCanna Capital Corp., a royalty company for the U.S. licensed medical cannabis industry. Kamm is currently a principal and entrepreneur-in-residence at Sandy Hill Venture Capital, a San Francisco Bay Area firm. He has more than 25 years of experience operating and advising businesses from large Fortune 500 corporations to venture capital-backed companies. Jeff Tindale has resigned from the board of directors, making way for Kamm’s appointment. Tindale will continue to act on FinCanna’s board of advisers.

Arvind Sharma has been appointed chief digital and payments officer at Central 1 Credit Union, effective September 24. Sharma has more than 20 years of experience in retail and institutional payments and technology and a specialization in design thinking and agile principles. Prior to his most recent role as vice-president, IT, individual insurance and Manulife Bank and Trust, at Manulife Financial, Sharma held the role of vice-president, innovation and customer value, at D+H, and was vice-president, product and new business development, at Marlborough Stirling, a subsidiary of Vertex Data Sciences.

HEALTH/MEDICAL

Eli Dusenbury has been appointed CFO at Isodiol International Inc., a company specializing in hemp-based health and wellness products. Dusenbury, who replaces outgoing CFO Bryan Loree, has more than eight years of public accounting experience providing financial reporting, operational and assurance engagement services to a variety of both public- and private-sector entities reporting in Canada and the U.S. The company has also appointed Marvin Washington, a retired National Football League (NFL) player, former financial adviser and now entrepreneur, to its board of directors. Washington served as a voice for former NFL players in the NFL’s concussion lawsuit and is an advocate for all-natural, non-habit-forming cannabis and using cannabinoids as neuroprotectants as well as an avenue to alleviate prescriptions opioid abuse and addiction.

Chris Waller, pharmacist and owner of Lakeside Medicine Centre Pharmacy in Kelowna, B.C., has been elected president of the BC Pharmacy Association’s board of directors for 2018-19. Keith Shaw, regional pharmacy manager with Sobeys based in Chilliwack, has been elected vice-president. Alex Dar Santos, associate-owner of Shoppers Drug Mart in Richmond, returns as past president. Joining the board are Michael Huitema, pharmacy manager, Shoppers Drug Mart, Kamloops; Lori Hurd, pharmacy manager, Save-On-Foods, Richmond; and Karen Sullivan, senior director, pharmacy professional affairs, Shoppers Drug Mart/Loblaws. Returning directors are John Forster-Coull, owner and manager, Victoria Compounding Pharmacy; Mark Dickson, principal, MD Hygieia Advisory; Annette Robinson, pharmacy specialist, Pharmasave Drugs (Pacific), Cloverdale; Shawn Sangha, pharmacy operations manager, London Drugs, Richmond; John Tse, pharmacy consultant; and Jamie Wigston, pharmacist, West End Medicine Centre, New Westminster.

HOSPITALITY/TOURISM/CONVENTION

Ali Mohammed has been appointed general manager at Four Seasons Resort Whistler, replacing Joerg Rodig. Mohammed has travelled extensively throughout his nearly 20 years with Four Seasons, beginning with a security officer position at Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at the First Residence and continuing in a variety of roles in Toronto, the Maldives, Thailand, the Bahamas, Saudi Arabia, Alexandria and lastly Whistler, where he was announced as the property’s resort manager last year.

LEGAL

Matthew Allard, Harshi Mann and Sarah Martin have joined Fasken’s Vancouver office as associates after completing their articles in September. Allard joins the labour, employment and human rights group, Mann joins the commercial litigation group and Martin joins the energy and natural resources group.

REAL ESTATE

Antonio Bellano has been appointed principal and practice leader, B.C., project management, at Avison Young and will be based out of the company’s Vancouver office. Bellano has more than 20 years of commercial real estate experience, most recently as vice-president, property development, with Gateway Casinos & Entertainment Ltd. Prior to Gateway, he held executive, construction, project management, asset management and real estate development management and consultant positions in Metro Vancouver and Washington state with SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts, Joey Restaurant Group, Wyndham Worldwide, New Generation Construction Ltd. and Intrawest Resort Club Group.

RESOURCES

Robert Cross has been appointed to Standard Lithium Ltd.’s board of directors as non-executive chairman. Cross is an engineer with 25 years of experience as a financier and company builder in the mining and oil and gas sectors. He co-founded and serves as chairman of B2Gold and co-founded and served as chairman at Bankers Petroleum Ltd. and Petrodorado Energy Ltd. He also held senior roles at Northern Orion Resources Inc., Yorkton Securities Inc. and Gordon Capital Corp. 

HATS OFF

Business in Vancouver welcomes submissions from local small businesses and large corporations alike that demonstrate examples of corporate philanthropy and community involvement in the Vancouver area. High-resolution images are also welcome.

Westminster Savings Credit Union donated $10,000 to the Canadian Red Cross to assist those impacted by the B.C. wildfires. The government of B.C. will match individual donations up to $20 million made to the Red Cross until October 12, 2018.

CIBC Children’s Foundation donated $26,500 to the Take a Hike Foundation in support of vulnerable youth in B.C. Take a Hike empowers youth to overcome barriers and succeed in school and life through a program combining academics with therapy, outdoor adventure-based learning and community involvement. The funds will help to support 80 youths in the 2018-19 school year across the Lower Mainland and West Kootenays, and will help to launch a new classroom in Surrey.

Residents of Cedar Springs PARC seniors’ retirement residence in North Vancouver and PARC Retirement Living donated $12,960 to Parkgate Community Services Society to help support residents who were displaced by the fire at Lions Manor in Deep Cove on the North Shore in July.

Panatch Group, a family-owned business focused on the development of commercial, industrial and residential real estate, donated a bus to The Club, a gathering place dedicated to combat loneliness and isolation among seniors – it is free and open to all those over 50. The bus will help seniors travel and be active in the Port Moody community.

The Connor, Clark & Lunn Foundation donated $8,000 to Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver. The donation is part of a three-year pledge to support life-changing mentoring programs for local kids. •
