 Health/Medical

Hector Bremner and Bob Rai have been appointed as CEO and president at Avricore Health Inc., respectively. Bremner previously held the position of executive vice-president of Avricore’s branding, strategic communications and public affairs. Rai has served as the company’s CEO since 2017.

David Noshad and Sotiris Antoniou have been appointed as company board advisers.

Manufacturing

Larry Liang has been appointed managing director of China production at EMV Automotive Technology Inc. (Chongqing), a wholly owned subsidiary of ElectraMeccanica Vehicles Corp., which is based in Vancouver. Liang previously served as a deputy general manager and senior product manager at DGENX, SAIC-GM, Siemens Automotive Electronics and Pan Asian Technical Automotive Center.

Non-Profit

Christian Chia and Brent Wolverton have joined the Vancouver Police Foundation as trustees. Chia is president and CEO of Open Road Auto Group and Wolverton is president and CEO of Pacific Investment Corp.

Peter Amstrong and Jack Wong have retired as trustees from the foundation.

Resources

Réal Foley has been appointed as senior vice-president, marketing and logistics, at Teck Resources Ltd. effective at the start of 2020. Foley joined Teck Resources in 2008 and was appointed vice-president, marketing, with responsibility for coal and base metals in 2018. He will succeed Andrew Stonkus, who will retire from the position on December 31, 2019.

Ian Anderson and André Stark have been appointed as vice-president, logistics, and vice-president, marketing for coal and base metals, respectively. Anderson previously served as Teck Resources’ general manager of coal logistics. Stark was head of marketing for coal.

Yuan Gao has been appointed to the board of directors at Lithium Americas Corp. Gao is vice-chairman of the board of directors of Qinghai Taifeng Pulead Lithium-Energy Technology Co. Ltd., a leading lithium-ion battery cathode producer in China. He holds a doctorate in physics from the University of British Columbia.

Technology

Rizwan Somji, Soheil Samimi and Fabian Dawson have joined Victory Square’s advisory team. Somji is CEO of Channel Gate Technologies. Samimi is a founder, investor and board director of AgTech Scientific. Dawson serves as an editorial adviser to the South Asian Post, Asian Pacific Post and Filipino Post newspapers, and to several other publications in Korea, Hong Kong, Malaysia, India, Singapore, the Philippines and England.

Hats Off

Business in Vancouver welcomes submissions from local small businesses and large corporations alike that demonstrate examples of corporate philanthropy and community involvement in the Vancouver area. High-resolution images are also welcome.

Days Inns Canada donated $5,000 to Shoe Bank Canada. The funds will support the new partnership between Shoe Bank Canada and Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies in British Columbia and Ontario. 

For the sixth consecutive year, the Lohn Foundation has donated $3,000 in support of the Down Syndrome Resource Foundation’s educational programs for students with Downsyndrome.

RBC Foundation donated $50,000 to PLEA Community Services’ KidStart mentoring program. The funds will help provide work experience for youth enrolled in the program.
