What happened: Canadian National Railway and Teamsters Canada have reached a tentative collective agreement for more than 3,000 workers who have been without a contract since late July.

Why it matters: The tentative agreement ends a weeklong strike that disrupted the operations of companies across the country.

Canadian National Railway (CN) has reached a tentative agreement with the more than 3,000 CN workers on strike since last Tuesday.

Details of the agreement have yet to be released. Members represented by the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference will vote to ratify the new collective agreement after members are educated on the terms of the deal. The process usually takes several months, according to the union.

In the meantime, regular operations will resume at CN on Wednesday.

CN said it expects the results of the ratification vote within eight weeks.

“We want to thank our customers for their patience and support and assure them that CN is preparing to resume full rail operations as soon as possible,” stated CN president and CEO JJ Ruest in a release.
