What happened: B.C. Tech Association unveils nominees for annual Technology Impact Awards

What if the global agricultural industry could reduce synthetic chemicals by 80% in the next decade?
Or if motorcyclists could be given a heads-up through their handlebars when sensors detect the potential for a crash?
Such high-tech leaps are already underway on the West Coast and are among those being recognized by the B.C Tech Association’s annual Technology Impact Awards.
The industry group unveiled on Tuesday (April 28) 38 finalists — both companies and individuals — for the 2020 awards.
Terramera Inc. and Damon Motors Inc. received nods for Excellence in Technology Innovation for their respective developments in agriculture and motorcycle safety systems.
Other finalists include Clio (Themis Solutions Inc.) CEO Jack Newtown, who oversaw the closing of a Series D funding to the tune of US$250 million for his legal-tech firm last year.
Newtown is nominated for Person of the Year.
The awards were originally slated to be presented June 11, however, the COVID-19 pandemic put those plans on pause.
The B.C. Tech Association plans to recognize the winners in the fall but an exact date for an award ceremony — virtual or otherwise — has not been determined.
