Susannah Pierce, who has been the public face of the $40 billion LNG Canada project in B.C., is moving up.
Shell Canada has announced that the company's president and country chairmain, Michael Crothers, is retiring. Pierce will replace him as president in 2021.
Shell Canada is the Canadian division of Royal Dutch Shell plc, which is the lead partner behind the LNG Canada project.
Pierce is director of corporate affairs for LNG Canada. She and Crothers will remain in their positions until Crothers retires, Shell Canada said in a brief news release Thursday.
Prior to becoming director of corporate affairs for LNG Canada in 2013, Pierce was Shell Canada's vice president of value chain integration.
Pierce was featured last year in BIV News' Influential Women in Business awards. Born in Regina, Pierce grew up in Calgary, where her father, a lawyer, worked for the oil and gas industry. Pierce earned a bachelor's degree from George Washington University and a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University from the School of Advanced International Studies, where she focused on energy and the environment.
Prior to joining Shell Canada, Pierce worked for TransCanada Corp. -- now TC Energy Corp. (TSX:TRP). While with Shell, she worked in the Netherlands but moved back to Canada and was put in charge of external affairs for what would become the LNG Canada project, which Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called "the single largest private sector investment project in Canadian history."
