Trans Mountain Corporation has ordered a work stoppage on its pipeline expansion project for the Lower Mainland, following a serious injury.

The company says a worker with one of the project's contractors was seriously injured Wednesday while working at the company's Burnaby terminal, which is being expanded as part of the piepline twinning project.

The company did not reveal the nature of the injuries or the cause, stating only that the worker is in hospital in stable condition. The accident is being investigated by WorkSafeBC.

"All construction operations in the Lower Mainland have been immediately suspended and Trans Mountain is fully cooperating with WorkSafeBC and the Canada Energy Regulator," the company says in a news release.
