Cooling our cities by replacing blacktop with whitetop. The urban heat island effect, in which pavement and concrete absorb solar radiation and make cities several degrees hotter than the surrounding landscape, could be addressed by changing the way roads and sidewalks are built, according to researchers at MIT. Simply adding lighter coloured materials to paving could reduce the heat island effect. – World Economic Forum

Norway launches first battery powered fully autonomous cargo vessel. You’ve got to hand it to the Norwegians – they are the leaders when it comes to electrifying shipping. And now they are even pioneering automation in shipping. Yara International is planning the maiden voyage of a cargo vessel that will have no crew. It will be fully autonomous. – Electrek
