It appears that COVID-19 has caused the temporary closure of several Lower Mainland medical labs, which offer COVID-19 testing.

According to LifeLabs' website, 12 LifeLabs locations – including three in Vancouver, two on Vancouver Island and the rest across Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley – have been closed temporarily. As well, 11 other sites in the same regions have reduced their hours.

The company, which offers tests like blood, ECG, and COVID-19 testing, has reportedly sent out an email to health-care providers across the province.

“Canada continues to see record-breaking COVID-19 case numbers and hospitalizations because of the highly transmissible Omicron variant, and healthcare employers across the country are experiencing staff shortages,” the screenshotted notice reads.

“With the increasing cases of Omicron and pandemic protocols, LifeLabs has made the difficult decision to temporarily close and/or reduce hours for weeks at select BC Patient Service Centres experiencing significant staffing shortages.”
